In the 1950s, Livigno was suspended on the edge of the world during winter.
The first snows enveloped the village in a deep, white silence and the Foscagno Pass became impassable. Everything needed for daily life – food, clothing, footwear and, of course, wine – had to reach families and the few hotels by the end of autumn, before winter cut off all connections with the rest of the world.
Orders were collected at the September Fair.
The wine, transported in small barrels, was stored during the long cold months in the Cheśéta, the cellar where cheese, cured meats and other precious goods were kept. It was only when the thaw came in spring that Grandfather Guido and my father returned to Livigno: they met friends and customers, settled accounts and redeemed the wine left at the beginning of autumn.
The hospitality was simple and sincere, made up of genuine gestures.
A coffee, a snack, and, of course, a glass of that wine, which was running low and, after waiting all winter in the quiet of the Cheśéta of Little Tibet, seemed to have transformed. The cold months had given it a new roundness, an unexpected, almost surprising goodness.
Today, as then, our wine renews that memory: aged in the caves of the Latteria di Livigno, at an altitude of 1,816 metres, it rediscovers its authentic essence, made up of time, silence and alpine purity. A wine that tells the story of the mountains and their art of knowing how to wait.

The Grotta cheese from the Latteria di Livigno is also produced in the same place.
It is made from high-altitude milk and naturally matured to enhance its unique body and aromas. Together, Cheśéta and Grotta celebrate the pairing of Valtellina wine and cheese: a harmony of flavours that embodies the true character of Livigno and its ancient traditions.
A story of heroic viticulture, passion for the land and tradition.
The Pietro Nera Winery, founded in 1940, is one of the most historic in Valtellina, a true symbol of tradition and love for the TERRITORY. For generations, the Nera family has been dedicated to passing on the art of viticulture, cultivating the picturesque terraced vineyards. In these unique places, each bunch of grapes tells an ancient story and is transformed into wines of rare elegance and uniqueness, a profound expression of the land and the passion that continues to be cherished by the NERA FAMILY.

Latteria di Livigno: over 70 years of tradition and Alpine goodness.
For over 70 years, the Latteria di Livigno has been processing and transforming the purest milk. The dairy is located in unspoilt nature, surrounded by high-altitude pastures and green forests, in an area traditionally dedicated to the processing of milk and its derivatives: a territory where man and nature coexist in perfect harmony. The Latteria di Livigno was born out of a desire to promote the development of the mountain environment and its economy. Small milk producers joined together in a cooperative to create a structure that, in addition to processing dairy products, offers residents and tourists the opportunity to experience the goodness of milk.
